The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, is set to spearhead the commencement of two major water projects in the Volta Region, following a strong corporate social responsibility intervention by Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC aimed at improving access to potable water.
The projects, which target sustainable water supply for more than 10,000 residents and students, will officially begin with sod-cutting ceremonies to be led by the Regional Minister, highlighting government’s renewed focus on water security and sanitation in the Volta Region.
Hon. Gunu, who assumed office in January 2025, has consistently identified access to clean and reliable water as a development priority, describing it as critical to public health, education and the successful implementation of the government’s broader economic agenda.

The borehole initiatives form part of Republic Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme under its flagship Power to Make a Difference (PMAD) initiative and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG-6), which seeks to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
The sod-cutting ceremonies are scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at two locations:
- Teviefe Senior High School Borehole Project, at 9:00 am
- Ablonu Village Borehole Project, at 2:00 pm
Both projects will involve the drilling and installation of hybrid solar- and electricity-powered mechanised boreholes, a technology designed to ensure reliability and sustainability, even during power outages.
Republic Bank indicated that the intervention will significantly ease the burden of water access for beneficiary communities while contributing to improved health outcomes and a better learning environment for students.

In an official communication, the Managing Director of Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC, Dr. Benjamin Dzoboku, noted that the participation of the Volta Regional Minister underscores a shared commitment between government and the private sector to promote development and improve the welfare of communities in the region.
Hon. Gunu’s involvement in the sod-cutting ceremonies reflects growing collaboration between public institutions and corporate bodies in addressing critical social needs, particularly in the areas of water, sanitation, education and public health across the Volta Region.
