The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has heavily criticized the ongoing recruitment of young people into the security services under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, there are pressing concerns that need to be addressed, arguing that the youth borrow and spend while they are unemployed.
He stressed that there are still communities in Ghana with no internet access; hence, it is not prudent to ask the youth to sit behind a computer to take an aptitude test.
Addressing the parliament on Thursday, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Efutu, stated that the entire process for an unemployed youth with the desire to be recruited into the fire service, immigration, or the prison service is a complete scam, adding that the urgent needs of these young individuals should be drastically addressed.
“Recruitment is a complete scam, and I will explain why. The recruitment into prison, police, immigration, you are now even telling the youth to go and buy forms. They should go and sit behind a computer and do an aptitude test”.
”In this country, how many communities have internet access? The youth are spending more. Unemployed youth are borrowing to spend and have access to a computer. These are things that you have ignored, and you tell us, Macro this, macro that”, he stressed.
The ongoing recruitment by both the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior has completed the screening process, body selection, and documentation, and they are currently at the aptitude test phase.
At this stage, potential recruits are tested on measures of inherent capacity, cognitive abilities, and potential to learn new skills, rather than just testing existing knowledge.
