Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Ghana’s fastest man over 100m, is unsure whether to turn full-time pro or continue his academic studies.
Currently running with the South Florida Bulls, Rasheed smashed Ghana’s 100m record at the NCAA D1 East Prelims last weekend. His 9.86 seconds is the fastest time worldwide this year, matched only by American sprinter Kenny Bednarek.
A Communications graduate, Rasheed is debating whether to pursue athletics full-time or further his education.
“I don’t know yet. I just graduated in communication. I was trying to do my masters in entrepreneurship, but anyway, I’m ready. If the pro comes, fine. If it doesn’t, I stick with my education plan and do my masters at the University of South Florida,” he told 3Sports’ Bill Eshun.
The 27-year-old hinted that he will make a final decision by the end of the season.
“Who knows tomorrow? Whatever will happen will happen at the end of the season so we just hope for the best. Right now, I’m just focused on the NCAA next week. That’s all I’m focusing on. If the pro comes, we are ready to take it.”
