More than 1,000 Ghanaians living in Qatar have been forced to stay indoors following Iran’s missile attack on a U.S. military base near Doha.
Speaking on Ghana Tonight with Alfred Ocansey, Ghanaian resident Stephen Owura, who lives in the Argentina Neighbourhood, confirmed the situation. “We’ve been asked to remain indoors until further notice. From the moment the missiles were seen in the sky, we’ve stayed inside,” he said.
Owura claimed he saw about ten missiles flying over the area. “Fortunately, the U.S. Army base here received intel early. So, they launched a response before the missiles reached them.”
He appealed to Ghanaians back home to keep them in their prayers. “It’s a sad time for us. We’re immigrants here with families back home. Seeing these events will only worry them more.”
Owura warned that the threat isn’t over. “Based on the information we’ve gathered, Iran says it’s not done yet. We’re hoping that things don’t escalate, or we’ll be in serious trouble.”
No Word from the Ghana Embassy Yet
Owura also expressed concern over the silence from Ghanaian officials. “We’ve not heard anything from the Ghana Embassy or the ambassador here. Hopefully, we’ll get a message by morning,” he said.
Fear of Repatriation
“Our biggest fear now is being repatriated,” Owura noted.“Many of us came here to work and support our families. If the situation worsens, we may be asked to return home. That would derail everything.”
He urged the Ghanaian government to offer urgent assistance. “If we’re under lockdown, we can’t buy food. Shops and malls are closed. We’re pleading with the Ghana Mission to provide food or supplies.”
