Legal scholar Prof Kwaku Asare has praised former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his early concession in the 2024 presidential election, calling it an act of true statesmanship.
In a Facebook post, Prof Asare stated, “Bawumia’s early concession was exemplary. Let’s normalise such statesmanship, not bastardise it.”
His remarks counter criticisms from NDC officials who argue Bawumia’s move was premature. NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande called it “populist and dangerous,” while ex-MP Inusah Fuseini said it distracted from collation centre activities.
Despite the backlash, Prof Asare maintains that conceding early helps strengthen democratic maturity and should be encouraged.
