Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Board Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority, has been released on bail, his lawyer, Ken Kuranchie, has confirmed.
This development comes after Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s detention by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over financial matters linked to his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
According to reports, the inquiry primarily examines financial approvals made during Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s time at GIIF.
Although specific details of the case remain undisclosed, Kuranchie has emphasized the importance of following due legal process while maintaining that his client has done nothing wrong.
In a recent interview with Citi News, Ken Kuranchie stated, “Investigations have just started, so let us wait and see what turns out next. My client is innocent. He is innocent of absolutely all charges. But we shall see; let the government build its case.”
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s detention and subsequent release on bail have sparked intense debate, with many calling for transparency and accountability in the investigation.
