A Professor at the Department of Political Science and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Asian Studies, at the University of Ghana, Alidu Seidu Mahama has been declared winner of the Tamale Central NDC Primaries.
The former Head of the University of Ghana Political Science Department pulled 840 votes emerging the winner of the primaries contested by eleven others.
The NDC is holding this primaries following the demised of the late Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Dr. Ibrahim Mutala Mohammed who was among the eight (8) officials killed in the August 6, 2025 Helicopter crash in Ashanti Region.
His closest contender, Abdul Hanan Gundadow, a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tamale, polled 536 votes

Prof. Seidu Alidu is currently a Professor at the Department of Political Science and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Asian Studies, at the University of Ghana. He was a Donahue Institute Scholar on United States’ Political Thought at the University of Massachusetts in 2014.
He is a visiting lecturer to twelve Master of Research and Public Policy (MRPP) Universities in Africa including the University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, University of Dar-es-Salam, University of Nairobi and the University of Botswana.
