President John Dramani Mahama will leave Accra on Sunday, March 1, 2026, for Arusha, Tanzania, where he will be the Special Guest of Honour at the opening of the 2026 judicial year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The ceremony, scheduled for Monday, will also mark the launch of the Court’s 20th anniversary celebration under the theme: “20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa.”
A statement issued by the Presidency Communications and signed by Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, said the invitation marks the first time a sitting President of the Republic of Ghana will address the African Union Court.
The statement said President Mahama would also hold bilateral talks with Tanzanian President, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, during his visit.
It noted that the visit forms part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and promote cooperation between Ghana and Tanzania, as well as Ghana’s continued support for regional and continental institutions.
President Mahama is expected to return to Ghana after the opening programme on Monday. In his absence, the Vice President will act as President in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
