President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in and commissioned five new envoys to represent Ghana in various diplomatic missions abroad, urging them to prioritise economic diplomacy to advance the country’s development agenda.
The ceremony was held at the Presidency in Accra on Monday, February 9, 2026, where the newly appointed diplomats took the Oath of Office, Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Secrecy before officially assuming their roles.
The envoys commissioned include Alhaji Said Saleh Sinare as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Lt. Col. Alhajj Umar Sanda Ahmed as Ambassador to the Republic of Mali; Mr. Kofi Attor as Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba; Mr. Emmanuel Opeku as Ambassador-in-situ; and Mrs. Regina Appiah Sam as High Commissioner to the Republic of Malta.
Addressing the envoys after administering the oaths, President Mahama charged them to move beyond routine diplomatic representation and adopt proactive strategies that deliver measurable benefits to Ghana’s economy and international relations.
He emphasised that Ghana’s foreign missions must serve as strategic platforms for attracting foreign direct investment, strengthening bilateral partnerships and promoting trade and investment opportunities for the country.
President Mahama further noted that diplomatic missions remain critical instruments for national development and must align their programmes with government priorities under the administration’s broader development agenda. He urged the envoys to ensure that their mission plans reflect the government’s national reset vision and focus on results-oriented diplomacy.
The President also expressed confidence in the competence and vast experience of the newly appointed envoys, stating that their selection demonstrates government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s diplomatic presence globally and deepening international cooperation.
The commissioning of the envoys forms part of ongoing efforts by the Mahama administration to reposition Ghana’s foreign service to support economic growth, strengthen global partnerships and promote sustainable national development.
