The President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has announced a Presidential amnesty for 998 prisoners.
In a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President acted based on the recommendation of the Prisons Service Council in consultation with the Council of State in accordance with Article 72(1) of the 1992 constitution.
The statement revealed that 998 prisoners were granted the amnesty out of 1,014 recommended.
