President Mahama Appoints Baba Sadiq as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria

The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikwei Central, Abu Baba Sadiq, has been appointed as the new High Commissioner designate to Nigeria by President John Mahama.

The appointment was announced on Sunday, March 1, by the Foreign Affairs minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu.

This follows directives by President Mahama to fill in the position after Baba Jamal  stepped down from the post to contest the Ayawaso East by-election on the ticket of the NDC in late January.

However, Baba Jamal stressed that his decision to vacate his position to seek the party’s nomination in his birthplace is motivated by a desire to serve, not personal ambition.

Bab Sadiq lost to NPP’s Patrick Yaw Boamah in the 2024 elections, pulling 19,368 votes, while the incumbent Yaw Boamah secured 21,099 votes.

As the senior diplomatic representative of Ghana, Baba Sadiq’s new role will focus on fostering political, economic, trade, and cultural ties, while providing consular services to citizens and facilitating high-level government negotiations.

Baba Sadiq expressed his profound gratitude to President John Mahama and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, adding that he is committed to serve with diligence and integrity.

“I am profoundly honoured by the confidence of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama in appointing me as Ghana’s High Commissioner-Designate to Nigeria”, he said.

“I also appreciate the Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for his support”.

”I am committed to serving Ghana with diligence and integrity”, Baba Sadiq added.
