Police withdraw injunction application against #DumsorMustStop vigil

In court today Friday, 24th May 2024, the injunction against organizers of the #DumsorMustStop vigil was withdrawn pending new amendments to the protest venue.

The police applied for an injunction to stop the protest following a disagreement on the route and venue of convergence. Organizers initially wanted to picket at the Revolution Square but the Police said it was a security risk due to the proximity to Jubilee House.

That forced the organizers to change the date and venue, proposing to start at the University of Ghana and end at the Tetter Quarshie Interchange. However, the police feeling unsatisfied, applied for an injunction.

Selorm Dramani Dzramado a representative of the organizers told the media that they have decided to change the venue for the #DumsorMustStop vigil in compliance with the Public Order Act.

“We told the public why we chose the Revolution Square because it holds a certain historical significance and its proximity to the Presidency so the police insistence on us changing the venue, we complied with Article 41(i) of the Constitution which says that the citizens of Ghana must always cooperate with the lawful agencies in the maintenance of law and order to write a letter to the police to announce the change of venue and date.”

Selorm Dzramado said the court has yet to grant them the go-ahead, but “there is going to be a meeting with the police” indicating that the discussion would “start afresh.”
