Police invite Afenyo-Markin over attack on police officer

The Ghana Police Service has invited the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin to assist in investigation regarding the content of a video that has gone viral.

In the video, the Minority Leader is seen striking on the head of a policer officer who was restraining the demonstrators from proceeding to a particular direction.

This incident comes on the back of a demonstration led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) demanding the reinstatement of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, whose suspension by President Mahama has sparked widespread backlash from some political quarters.

In a statement sighted by Awake News, the police disclose that a notice has been served to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin to release the Effutu MP to assist them with investigations regarding the alleged assault.

The statement added that officer in question will equally be assisting the investigations.

POLICE INVITE HON. ALEXANDER AFENYO- MARKIN TO ASSIST INVESTIGATION INTO VIRAL DEMONSTRATION VIDEO

The Ghana Police Service has reviewed several video footages on an alleged assault on a Police officer by Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin during the just ended demonstration.

Following the review, the Service has written to the Right Hon. Speaker of Parliament requesting the release of Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin to assist ongoing investigation into the alleged incident.

The officer in question will also be assisting the investigation.
