Accra, Aug.5, GNA – The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, between January and July 2025, has retrieved 43 stolen vehicles imported into Ghana.

Being mostly luxurious vehicles, they included Rolls Royce, Porsche, BMW, Audi Q8 and Mercedes Benz V Class, stolen from Italy, Canada, Germany, France, United States of America, and Belgium.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director General of CID, revealed this during a joint Police/Cyber security Authority (CSA) press briefing on Monday.

She said the impounded vehicles were made possible through collaboration between the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Interpol, and FBI.

“The collaboration was not only about stolen motor vehicles trade but also money laundering, insurance fraud, identity theft, visa card fraud and other transnational crimes,” she said.

After investigations, the court ordered that 18 of the recovered 43 cars should be released and repatriated to their countries of origin, COP Donkor said.

The cases on the remaining 25 vehicles were pending in court.

She said the importers of such vehicles could not provide proof of ownership of purchase before their importation.

“Let me indicate here that payment of Customs’ duties in Ghana does not mean that the vehicle was legitimately acquired from the country of origin,” the CID Boss stated.

Mr Divine Selase Agbeti, the Director General of CSA, said 65 suspects had been arrested over alleged online criminal activities from Sogakope, Dodowa,  Sassasi, Ubuntu Estate, Bortianor, Ngleshie Amanfrom and Teshie Nungua.

He said 42 laptop computers, 41 cellular phones, and a Starlink internet equipment were seized from the one Ghanaian and 64 foreign suspects.
