The Nkawie Divisional Police Command has arrested four individuals for allegedly impersonating national security operatives to carry out unauthorized anti-galamsey operations and extorting money from mining sites within the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The suspects, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, were reportedly posing as national security personnel and conducting illegal operations under the guise of combating illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Police sources said the suspects allegedly used the false identity to extort money from operators at mining sites in the municipality.

The Nkawie Divisional Police Command has since taken the suspects into custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

Police said further action would be taken based on the outcome of investigations and reiterated their commitment to tackling illegal mining and related criminal activities in the area.

The Command also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report suspicious individuals engaging in unauthorized security operations.
