The Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested 82 motorbikes and 45 riders who flouted the road traffic laws in Ashaiman.
The arrest comes in response to calls from the chiefs and students calling on the police to save them from the activities of commercial motorbike riders popularly known as Okada riders in the municipality.
In an interview, the MTTD commander, DSP Isaac Kojo Forson said the exercise followed concerns raised by the public about motorbike riders not respecting the road traffic regulations and knocking down people.
He said most of the Okada riders involve in robbery activities during the night and disguise themselves to do Okada business during the day.
He stated that his unit together with the help of the district and regional commander will carry out more of such exercise in the coming days to reduce rampant knockdowns
