Peter Okoye reflects on family fallout with Jude in wake of fraud allegations

Peter Okoye, member of the acclaimed musical duo P-Square, has reflected on the emotional toll of his protracted estrangement from his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, amid ongoing proceedings in a ₦1.5 billion fraud case.

In a heartfelt Instagram story shared on Tuesday, April 15, Peter reflected on years of alleged betrayal, manipulation, and financial deceit within his family.

“Don’t let ‘family’ be the reason you’re drowning in silence,” he wrote. “I did for over 20 years, and it almost cost me everything. But now I know better  love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray, and family doesn’t steal from you.”

He emphasized that true family offers support and compassion, not harm. “Real family doesn’t drain you, shame you, discriminate against you, or ignore your pain. My sanity matters. My mental health is a priority. If it costs my mental health, then it’s too expensive,” Peter added.

His statement follows his testimony in court on Monday, April 14, where he accused Jude of diverting music royalties through a company named Northside Music Limited, allegedly registered under Jude’s wife’s name and bearing a similar identity to P-Square’s original company.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Jude and his company on seven counts of money laundering involving N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59. Jude has denied all charges and pleaded not guilty.

Peter’s public comments highlight the emotional depth of a family dispute now unfolding in court, one that stretches far beyond music and into questions of trust, loyalty, and mental health.
