Otumfuo hails Dafeamekpor for his sterling performance in Parliament

Hon. Dafeamekpor in hand shake with the Ashantehene

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has showered praise on the Majority Chief Whip and MP for South Dayi, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor for his sterling performance and leadership in the Ghana’s parliament.

The unexpected commendation came when a parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasion Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

The revered overlord of the Ashanti noted that day was the first time meeting with Hon Dafeamekpor but his “sterling leadership qualities, strong voice and positive fighting spirits” have preceded him and endeared him to many many people in the nation.

The Parliamentary delegation met with the Ashantehene for a replacement of the 2 mighty Kente cloths that adorn the two flanks of the Presidential Seat in the Chamber as the original ones were donated by the Asantehene for the commemorative opening of Parliament House in January 1993 for the commencement of the 4th Republic.

The Rt. Hon Speaker further seized the opportunity to brief the Asantehene on the major projects taking place in Parliament to transform into a much more open, more accountable and accessible organ of state as the People’s House as well as facilitate the work of MPs in their deliberative roles on the floor of the House.

Hon. Rockson-Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip, was was part of the high powered delegation from Parliament led by the Speaker himself. The high powered delegation also included the 2nd Deputy Speaker, Hon Andrew Amoako Asiamah, MP for Fomena, the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon Patricia Appiagyei, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Clerk to Parliament, Hon . Ebenezer Ahumah-Djietror and a host of other high ranking Parliamentary service staffers.

OTOMFUO SINGLES OUT, HON. DAFEAMEKPOR FOR PRAISE IN KUMASI

1. The Rt Hon Speaker Alban Bagbin paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene yesterday afternoon in Kumasi.

2. ⁠The Speaker used the occasion, to express his deepest condolences to the Otumfuo and Asanteman for the loss of the Asantehemaa and commended him for the well organised state funeral.

3. ⁠The Rt. Hon Speaker further seized the opportunity to brief the Asantehene on the major projects taking place in Parliament to transform into a much more open, more accountable and accessible organ of state as the People’s House as well as facilitate the work of MPs in their deliberative roles on the floor of the House.

5. ⁠The Asantehene, in his remarks by way of response, commended the Rt . Hon Speaker for his transformational leadership which lifted the image of Ghana’s Parliament extremely high and promised to deliver with alacrity, fresh Kente cloths to replace the 2 old ones in the House.

6. ⁠However, in a surprise dose of praises, the Asantehene praised Ghana’s Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Lawyer Dafeamekpor, for his sterling performance as the MP for South Dayi in the Volta Region and the strong leadership qualities he has exhibited thus far in Parliament and urged him to continue with his good works and also remain as a strong leader and huge voice for the voiceless. This surprise commendations from the Otumfuo drew the admirations of all gathered therein including members of the Asanteman Council who openly acknowledged the very strong leadership qualities of the current Majority Chief Whip of Ghana’s Parliament.
