OSP probe not political vendetta – Edem Agbana

Ketu North MP Edem Agbana has pushed back against suggestions that the prosecution of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is politically motivated, insisting the case is about accountability, not revenge.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, June 7, Agbana argued that due process must apply to all public officials, regardless of their party or status.

“This is not about payback. It’s about ensuring that every official is accountable under the law,” he stressed.

Ofori-Atta is currently on the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) watch list and subject to an Interpol red notice. At the same time, his lawyers claim he’s undergoing medical treatment in the U.S. and cannot appear in person for questioning.

Not About Embarrassment

Agbana referenced past instances during the Mahama administration, where officials were subjected to multiple investigations without claims of political witch-hunts.

“Kojo Twum Boafo, now head of the FIC, was investigated extensively. He visited EOCO over 30 times. His homes and his mother’s house were searched. No one from the NDC claimed it was an attempt to embarrass him,” Agbana said.

He emphasized that the current process involving Ofori-Atta should be seen through the lens of the rule of law, not partisanship.

“All we are asking is for him to present himself. Let the legal process take its course. That’s how democracy works.”
