The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) says it has filed an appeal against the judgment of the High Court in Kumasi, which acquitted and discharged Alexander Kwabena Sarfo-Kantanka, President Nana Addo’s nominee for municipal chief executive for Juaben in the Ashanti Region, in an alleged bribery case.

In a Facebook update, the OSP said, “Sarfo-Kantanka was captured in a viral video demanding refunds from assembly members after his MCE nomination was rejected twice. He was later charged with 26 counts of corruption for allegedly paying bribes to facilitate his approval.”

The Court ruled among others that there was no direct link between the video and the alleged bribery. The OSP contends that the judgment cannot be supported having regard to the evidence on record and that the trial judge misdirected herself on key issues of law and fact.

The OSP believes justice was not served and has taken steps to challenge the decision at the appellate level.
