A Constituency Executive Member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ho Central Constituency of the Volta Region, Mr. Oscar Komla Bedzra, says the performance of President John Dramani Mahama within one year in office has surprised many critics, particularly opposition political parties who doubted his competence ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with Takoradi-based KYZZ FM on Friday, Mr. Bedzra indicated that President Mahama’s governance has won admiration beyond the ruling party, with opposition figures now openly acknowledging his achievements.
According to him, opposition parties, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kyeremanteng’s United Party (UP), Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrews’ Ghana Union Movement (GUM), and other minor political parties, have found common ground in commending the President’s performance.
Mr. Bedzra specifically mentioned Mr. Gabby Asare Okyere Darko, a leading member of the NPP, whom he claimed has publicly admitted that President Mahama is performing creditably.
He attributed the growing appreciation to key interventions by the Mahama administration, including the fight against corruption, the appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, and the recent reduction in fuel prices at the pumps.
“These measures have resulted in a general reduction in the prices of goods and services, lower transport fares, and improved living standards for Ghanaians,” Mr. Bedzra stated.
He further praised President Mahama’s commitment to completing abandoned road, school, and hospital projects inherited from the previous NPP administration, describing it as a clear demonstration of national interest over partisan politics.
Mr. Bedzra said this approach has earned the President additional respect, even from opposition quarters.
He concluded by urging political appointees serving under President Mahama to remain committed, disciplined, and guided by the vision of Ghana’s founding fathers to help deliver sustainable development for the country.
