Ken Ofori-Atta’s family is accusing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) of abusing its powers and violating his rights. They want the INTERPOL Red Notice against the former Finance Minister withdrawn immediately.

The family, through legal counsel Frank Davies, submitted formal appeals to the National Central Bureau and INTERPOL’s Commission for the Control of Files (CCF). They claim the OSP manipulated evidence and skipped court procedures to get an arrest warrant on February 11, 2025.

The warrant accuses Ofori-Atta of using public office for private profit. The family argues there’s no detailed charge against him and no affidavit supporting the arrest warrant.

They also criticized the OSP for branding him a fugitive in media briefings. They called it a form of “public lynching” and “unlawful.”

The family says the OSP ignored a pending Human Rights Court ruling set for June 18. It also rejected their offer for a video interview because of Ofori-Atta’s health. He has been receiving cancer treatment at the Mayo Clinic in the U.S. since 2021 and is scheduled for surgery on June 13.

Despite submitting medical proof, the OSP still reissued a wanted notice. The family believes the Special Prosecutor is more interested in embarrassing him than conducting a fair investigation.

“Ofori-Atta has always faced the law when required,” the statement said. “He is not running. He’s asserting his innocence.”

They insist the OSP’s actions are politically motivated and violate Ghana’s Constitution and international human rights standards.

The family says Ofori-Atta will return to Ghana after his treatment. “Once he recovers, he’ll meet with the OSP,” they stated. “We believe he’ll be cleared, and justice will expose the truth.”
