Dr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer, the Deputy National Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta of faking illness to evade justice.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day with host Roland Walker, Dr. Tanko said Ofori-Atta is healthy but using medical excuses to dodge the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

“Ken Ofori-Atta is not sick! He’s well, he’s hearty. There’s nothing wrong with him. He’s only doing hide and seek,” Dr. Tanko stated. “He knows the enormity of the crimes the OSP is investigating, and his lawyers have advised him accordingly.”

According to Dr. Tanko, a recent request by Ofori-Atta’s legal team for a virtual interrogation confirms the former minister is avoiding physical appearance before the OSP.

“This is a strategy they have adopted, and it is not going to help anybody,” he added.

Ofori-Atta Declared Wanted Again

Dr. Tanko’s comments follow the OSP’s renewed declaration of Ofori-Atta as a wanted person. The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, took the step after the former minister failed to appear on June 2, 2025, despite assurances of cooperation.

The OSP has labeled him a “fugitive from justice” and has requested a formal INTERPOL Red Notice to aid in his arrest and extradition. This is the second time he has been declared wanted. He was removed from the list in February 2025 after pledging to return voluntarily in May.

Praise for Mahama’s Anti-Corruption Drive

In the same interview, Dr. Tanko praised President John Mahama’s strong stance on corruption. He said Mahama’s leadership is enforcing ethical standards among public officials.

“President Mahama is on a mission to build a prosperous nation free from corruption and to recover all looted state funds. That’s why he has warned his appointees to stay clear of the public purse,” Dr. Tanko said.

He added that, nearly six months into office, no corruption scandal has emerged under Mahama’s administration. He urged the public and Ofori-Atta’s legal team to support the president’s Reset Ghana agenda.

Who Is Ken Ofori-Atta?

Ken Ofori-Atta served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024 under President Nana Akufo-Addo. He led key financial initiatives such as the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme and IMF bailout negotiations. However, his tenure was dogged by allegations of financial mismanagement and rising debt.

The OSP is currently investigating him for multiple offences, including procurement breaches and alleged misuse of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Tax Refund Account.

His lawyers claim he is unwell and scheduled for surgery, delaying his return to Ghana.

About the OSP

Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor was established in 2018 to investigate and prosecute corruption involving public officials. It operates independently of government control.
