The suspect involved in the tragic shooting death of Lawrencia Naa Borley Nelson, also known as Naa Gamu, has been charged with murder and unlawful possession of firearms.
Samuel Adjei was arraigned following an investigation into the incident that claimed the life of the Queen of the Ga-Adangme Muslim Union (Nungua West).
The fatal shooting occurred during Naa Gamu’s enskinment ceremony in Nungua, Accra, on Saturday. While participating in the traditional rites, a musketry shot fired as part of the ceremony struck her in the thigh, leading to her death.
Naa Gamu and her husband were being enskinned as queen and chief of the Ga-Adangme Muslim Union’s Nungua West branch when the incident took place.
Though the motive behind the shooting is still unclear, the police have arrested Samuel Adjei in connection with the crime.
Family members of the deceased have raised concerns of foul play and are calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Authorities have reassured the public that a full inquiry will take place as legal proceedings against the suspect unfold.
