Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi, says only graduates from GTEC-approved universities will qualify for national service moving forward.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, June 15, Mr. Gyamfi explained that this measure is part of efforts to eliminate ghost names and prevent unapproved institutions from infiltrating the system.

“From now on, any university not on GTEC’s accredited list will not be allowed to register graduates for national service,” he stated.

Previously, some non-existent or unaccredited institutions found their way into the NSA database, leading to the creation of fake names and illegal disbursement of public funds.

Gyamfi said he has sent the full list of participating institutions, including private ones, to GTEC for verification. Once GTEC confirms the approved institutions, any university not listed will be disqualified.

“I’ll publish the list soon. If GTEC says you’re not accredited, your students can’t do national service,” he added.

As a result of this review, GTEC has flagged 50 unaccredited institutions. Some had expired licenses, while others were never accredited in the first place.

“About 18 of them never had accreditation at all, yet they’ve participated in national service before,” Gyamfi revealed.

This crackdown follows ongoing investigations into financial irregularities at the NSA. On Friday, June 13, Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine revealed that over GH¢8.2 million was fraudulently deposited into the Ezwich account of former NSA Director-General Osei-Assibey Antwi.

“The amount was traced to Ezwich account number 1177042059. The card linked to the account was recovered from his residence,” Ayine said.

Investigators have identified 12 suspects, including top former officials, believed to be involved in the scheme.
