The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will hold its presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

This decision was finalized during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua disclosed the date at a press briefing following the meeting, clarifying that the timeline does not require any constitutional amendment.

“The National Council has set January 31, 2026, as the date for our presidential primaries,” he stated.

The announcement has stirred anticipation within the party, as several prominent members are expected to contest for the flagbearer slot. Officials say nomination procedures, campaign schedules, and a code of conduct will be released soon to guide the process.

The NEC pledged to ensure a transparent, fair, and credible electoral process in line with the NPP’s democratic principles.
