The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency. The party argues that the move is unjustified and not based on any mutual agreement.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, denied any consensus on the EC’s directive. “Our representatives were at the meeting, and I have to put it on record that there was no such agreement with the EC,” he said.

The EC explained that the rerun was necessary because scanned Pink Sheets from the affected polling stations lacked verification from the Presiding Officers. These documents replaced the original pink sheets, which were destroyed during a violent disruption at the collation centre.

However, the NPP insists the issue concerns only three polling stations and that collation can be completed without a rerun. “We don’t know what the EC is up to. The NPP is not going to give up on this fight,” Mohammed stated. “We don’t know of any elections. The EC must conclude the collation on the three polling stations; this is still outstanding.”

The party also called for enhanced security to protect the collation process rather than redoing votes that, according to them, had already been endorsed by party agents.

The NPP is expected to hold a press conference on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 10 a.m., where General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong will formally address the party’s position.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has scheduled the rerun for Friday, July 11, 2025, and assured the public of a transparent and peaceful process, with the Ghana Police Service providing security.
