Political analyst and UCC lecturer Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere has blamed weak leadership for growing disorder within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Eyewitness News on June 23, he said the national executives have failed to maintain control. As a result, party members are speaking out of turn and ignoring internal procedures.

“There is too much indiscipline within the NPP. The national executives can’t hold the centre. That’s why people are throwing tantrums,” he stated.

Tensions have been rising since the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections. Some members are now publicly attacking the party’s direction and leadership.

According to Dr. Otchere, this chaos likely explains why the party wants to elect a flagbearer earlier than usual. “Electing a leader early gives the party someone to rally behind. It brings discipline and silences unnecessary outbursts,” he explained.

He added that once a leader is in place, those undermining party unity will lose influence.

Meanwhile, observers believe the party risks long-term division if it fails to restore order quickly.
