NPP is Ghana’s worst gov’t ever – Kwakye Ofosu fires

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications, has launched a sharp critique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), calling it the “worst government in Ghana’s history.”

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, July 19, Kwakye Ofosu said the NPP’s internal reforms after its 2024 defeat won’t sway voters in 2028.

“Every party re-evaluates after a loss but it’s not structures that win elections, it’s the people and they’ve already rejected the NPP,” he stated.

Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu backed this view, saying there’s no logical reason for the 1.5 million voters who rejected the NPP in 2024 to change their minds by 2028.

“Unless the NDC fails miserably, there’s no path back for the NPP in the next election,” he added.

He believes the 2032 elections may offer a clearer test of political loyalty and change.

Meanwhile, Kwame Jantuah of the Convention People’s Party predicted that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will emerge as the NPP’s 2028 flagbearer.

“He’s the most marketed name in the NPP. Unless Akufo-Addo’s legacy drags him down, he’s their clear choice,” he said.

Political analyst Dr Joshua Zaato agreed, noting that credible polls show Bawumia remains popular within party ranks despite the defeat.

“The grassroots still back him. He’s not being blamed for the loss,” Zaato noted.
