NPP doesn’t care about the welfare of Ghanaians – Buaben Asamoa

Former Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has said that the party’s current leadership has strayed from its ideals of prioritizing Ghana’s development.

Mr. Asamoa reiterated that the governing NPP has abandoned its ideologies in favor of leaders who are only concerned with their own interests at the expense of Ghanaians who are already suffering.

The former NPP communicator spoke to Citi TV on November 21 about his decision to join Alan Kyerematen’s “Movement for Change,” emphasizing that the party’s current trajectory does not align with Ghana’s interests.

Mr. Asamoa reiterated the need for change, saying, “We believe it is time that the right things are done. The elephant is supposed to serve the people of Ghana. When it gets to the point where it becomes self-serving when it is supposed to look at the interests of Ghana, it begins to focus more on its interests and appearance; then it’s time to move on and serve the public.”

Mr. Buaben Asamoa and three other prominent NPP members—Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique—fortified their membership in the NPP after they publicly endorsed and campaigned for independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen.

In a press statement issued by the NPP on Monday, it was indicated that the four staunch members of the party had annulled their membership in the party for breaching the party’s constitution, specifically Articles 3(5)(A)(4) and 3(9)(1).

The Party highlighted Article 3(9)(I) of its constitution, which stipulates that a member who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected party member, or who joins or declares support for another political party or independent candidate when the party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by-election, automatically forfeits their membership in the party.
