NPP confirms July 19 Delegates Conference despite internal calls for postponement

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed that its much-anticipated National Delegates Conference will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, despite petitions and internal calls for a postponement.

At a press briefing on Monday, July 14, Joseph Osei-Owusu, Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, announced that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council had reviewed and ultimately rejected requests to delay the event.

“There was a petition that the date for the conference should be changed,” Mr. Osei-Owusu said. “Our NEC, after considering it, decided that we should continue. Given the preparation and commitments that we have made, the conference will proceed as announced.”

The conference is expected to be a defining moment for the party, with sweeping constitutional reforms on the agenda.

Delegates will deliberate on proposals from the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee, as well as revisit a key amendment proposal from the party’s 2019 Kumasi conference, which was endorsed in principle but never formally adopted.

NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah underscored the strategic importance of the reforms, noting they aim to reinforce internal party structures and enhance readiness for the 2028 general elections.

“That report, which has a package of amendments, and proposals resulting from the Mike Oquaye Committee and other submissions by party members, is part of the bundle that this conference will consider,” Ahiagbah said.

The conference will be held under the theme: “Rebuilding Together With Our Values.”
