Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Defence Minister and outgoing Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, has strongly criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of focusing solely on retaining power rather than addressing the country’s challenges.
His remarks followed the NPP’s announcement on Tuesday that its presidential primaries will be held on January 31, 2026, ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Reacting in a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 18, Dr. Boamah said the ruling party’s early focus on elections reveals a disregard for Ghanaians struggling under their leadership.
“The Competent Economic Management Team did enough damage to pensioners, people with disabilities, women, the youth, and Ghanaians in general,” he wrote. “Instead of apologizing, they’re thinking about the next elections.”
He added that the NPP’s approach fits a broader pattern of self-interest and neglect. “NPP thinks only about themselves and the next elections,” he said. “That’s their real priority, not the people.”
Dr. Boamah ended his post with a familiar NDC slogan:
“The Alternative Is…” is a phrase that signals the opposition’s readiness to offer better leadership.
