The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has accused the Ghana Police Service of deliberately stalling the collation of parliamentary results in the Ablekuma North constituency.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Kodua claimed the Electoral Commission (EC) is unable to conclude the collation of just three remaining polling stations due to a lack of police protection. “It’s left with just three polling stations for the EC to finish collating all the results and declare the winner for Ablekuma North,” he said.
According to him, every time the EC invites political parties for discussions, unruly individuals gather at the EC office to cause chaos. To address this, the EC reportedly requested security from the Police, but Kodua says the Police have been uncooperative. “The EC wrote to the police for protection, but the Police are giving different stories,” he alleged.
NPP Seeks Clarity from Police
Mr. Kodua revealed that the party wrote to the Police on June 3, seeking clarity on the security measures necessary to execute the collation as directed by a High Court. However, the Police reportedly responded that they were awaiting legal advice from the Attorney General before proceeding. “To me, the Police are only doing the bidding of the NDC,” Kodua claimed, accusing the service of political bias.
He emphasized the urgency of resolving the matter, stating that the people of Ablekuma North need a Member of Parliament immediately.
Legal Steps Underway
Kodua indicated that the NPP will soon publicly outline the legal actions it has taken to compel the authorities to complete the collation. The party maintains that there is no legal obstacle preventing the EC from finalizing the results. “We are confident we won the elections,” he added.
A High Court ruling had earlier instructed the EC to resume and complete the collation process in the constituency.
The NPP is urging the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and allow the EC to perform its constitutional mandate without further delay.
