Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a massive GHS107 million educational intervention project, described as the largest education-focused investment in the history of the constituency.
The MP made the announcement after cutting the sod for 15 mega educational projects, signaling the immediate commencement of construction following the successful completion of competitive procurement processes.
According to Mr. Ablakwa, all five public Senior High Schools in the constituency — Mepe St. Kizito Senior High School, Battor Senior High School, Aveyime Battor Secondary Technical School, Dorfor Senior High School, and Volo Senior High School — will benefit from 2,500-capacity modern dining hall complexes as well as new dormitory facilities for boys and girls, where applicable.
As part of the intervention, Phase Two of the Volo Community Day E-Block will also be undertaken to convert the school into a full boarding institution, a move expected to significantly enhance access and academic performance.
Beyond the senior high level, the project also includes the construction of new basic schools across all traditional areas in North Tongu, with special emphasis on Mepe, where several school structures were destroyed during the Akosombo Dam spillage.
“This is not just about buildings,” Mr. Ablakwa stated. “We are empowering the next generation to lead our country to the promised land.”
He expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Education, and the GETFund Administrator for their unwavering support and commitment to improving education in the constituency. He also acknowledged the Volta Regional Minister and traditional leaders for their presence and dedication to the development agenda.
Reaffirming his leadership philosophy, the North Tongu MP said he would continue to “under-promise and over-deliver,” a hallmark he says has defined his stewardship of the constituency.
Construction works, he assured, begin immediately, marking a major milestone in North Tongu’s educational transformation.
