Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah

Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah has assured the public that no military personnel will be deployed during the Ablekuma North Constituency election rerun scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.

His statement comes amid concerns after the Electoral Commission announced reruns in 19 polling stations within the constituency.

Addressing these fears, Dr Boamah took to his official Facebook page to emphasize the government’s commitment to peaceful and democratic elections.

“To ensure a peaceful and democratic process, the Ghana Police Service will be fully in charge of security for today’s elections,” he stated.

Dr Boamah reiterated three times that “there will be no military deployment”, underscoring the government’s intent to avoid voter intimidation or unrest.

He referenced past electoral violence, including the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election and the deaths of eight citizens during the 2020 elections, as a reminder of the need to prioritize safety and democracy.

“Let’s learn from past experiences and uphold citizen safety and democratic values,” he urged.

The Minister expressed confidence in the Ghana Police, noting that they are trained to manage electoral security.

“Keep the peace and make our voices heard as John Dramani Mahama resets Ghana and creates more opportunities for Ghanaians.”
