NIB destroys $350m worth of cocaine seized in tipper truck

The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), acting on a court order, has destroyed 3.3 tonnes of cocaine valued at approximately $350 million. The drugs were intercepted in March while transported in a tipper truck from Cape Coast to Accra.

The destruction occurred on Wednesday, June 4, at the Bundase Military Base after confirmatory tests. The exercise was carried out in the presence of the trial judge, state attorneys, and officers from both the NIB and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).

In addition to the cocaine, NACOC also destroyed other seized narcotic and pharmaceutical substances as part of the operation.

Speaking to journalists during the event, NACOC Director General, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to fight drug trafficking and abuse. He said, “We did this in your presence to show our commitment to end the menace. I urge those involved to stop. We will not sit by and watch them bring in illicit drugs to destroy our future leaders.”

He also announced that special operations would begin next month to clamp down on drug dealers across the country. “I hope you can assist us in exposing them. This cannot continue in our country,” he added.
