NIA suspends strike; Nationwide ID services resume June 30

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has suspended its indefinite strike, allowing all ID registration services to fully resume across Ghana starting Monday, June 30, 2025.

This follows successful negotiations between NIA staff, represented by the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), and key stakeholders, including the National Labour Commission (NLC), Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ministry of Finance, and union leadership.

In a statement signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs, the NIA expressed appreciation for the union’s cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to addressing workers’ concerns.

“Management acknowledges and appreciates the good faith demonstrated by the Union and assures staff that their legitimate concerns remain a priority,” the statement read.

The strike had caused service disruptions nationwide, temporarily halting access to national ID registration. The NIA apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the public for their patience.

“All NIA offices and registration centres will resume full operations on Monday, June 30,” the authority confirmed, urging citizens to visit their nearest centres for services.

The NIA also reaffirmed its dedication to providing “quality, efficient and reliable identification services” as part of its national mandate.
