The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has extended its nationwide Campus Connect outreach to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho, in a move aimed at bringing health insurance services closer to students and strengthening awareness of the Scheme among young people.

The initiative forms part of efforts by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to position the Scheme as an accessible and dependable partner in student healthcare while encouraging active enrollment and renewal on tertiary campuses.

Vice-Chancellor of UHAS, Prof. Lydia Aziato, welcomed the NHIS delegation and proposed that the activation be sustained as an annual engagement to continuously educate students on the importance of health insurance.

The Registrar, Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, and Dean of Students, Prof. Judith A. Torgbor, also underscored the need for students to prioritise their health, noting that physical well-being plays a key role in academic performance and overall success.

Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of NHIA, Mr. Christopher Galenkui, observed during the interaction that many students had limited understanding of the benefits available under the NHIS.

He explained that the Campus Connect programme is designed to close this information gap and make the Scheme more visible and relatable to the youth.

Acting Volta Regional Director, Madam Susan Chobbah, described the campaign as a strategic platform to expand enrollment among young people while educating them on the importance of maintaining active membership.

Ho District Manager, Mr. Saviour Amakpah, highlighted recent reforms within the Scheme and reiterated the Authority’s commitment to universal health insurance coverage, transparency, and improved service delivery.

The UHAS activation is part of a broader national campaign being rolled out by the NHIA’s Branding and Marketing Unit under the Corporate Affairs Directorate, in collaboration with regional and municipal offices.
