The Mental Health and Well-being Foundation with funding from the Australian High Commission, Ghana built and handed over a 10-seater WC toilet facility to the cured leper’s village in Ho.

The commissioning ceremony held on 26th May 2020, saw the presence of His Excellency Mr Andrew Barnes, the Australian High Commissioner and his entourage, Chiefs and elders of the community, the team from the Mental Health and Well-being Foundation and the people of Godokpe.
In a short speech delivered by the Australian High Commissioner H.E. Andrew Barnes, he said this commissioning marks the end of his four years term as the High Commissioner for Ghana and he hopes that this relationship goes a long way of bringing more exciting humanitarian projects to the people of Volta Region and beyond. He further admonished the beneficiaries of the project to strictly put in measures of maintenance of the facility.
Mr. Divine Kporha, the Project Manager of the Foundation in the Volta Region expressed his profound gratitude to the tax payers of Australia, the University of Newcastle, University of Health and Allied Sciences Ho, Prof Chris Kewley, Prof Mike Hazelton, Dr. Francis Acquah, Dr. Gina Teddy, Lawyer Kwabena Adjei among a host of others for their support towards the completion of the project. He added that this project is in line with United Nations’ SDGs; Goal 3, 6, 10 of good health and wellbeing, clean water and sanitation and reduced inequalities (marginalized groups) respectively.
In his closing remark, Torgbui Afele II, Divisional Chief of Ho-Hliha expressed his appreciation to the entire humanitarian team for putting a smile on their faces after several years of open defecation. The traditional leader said, with this, there would be reduction in health issues related to poor sanitation.
