The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced it will open nominations for its parliamentary primaries in Akwatia on Sunday, July 28, 2025, ahead of the upcoming by-election in the Eastern Region constituency.
A press release signed by General Secretary Fifi Kwetey detailed the process and timelines for the primaries, urging all aspirants to adhere strictly to the guidelines.
According to the release:
Nomination forms will be available at the party’s Eastern Regional Office from July 28 and must be submitted by July 30.
The primary to elect a candidate will be held on August 4, 2025.
The party also announced a 50% concession on filing fees for female aspirants and persons with disabilities.
Mr. Kwetey encouraged party members to conduct their campaigns with “decorum, unity, and fairness,” emphasizing the importance of discipline ahead of the competitive selection process.
This announcement comes after the Electoral Commission fixed September 2, 2025, for the Akwatia by-election following the passing of incumbent MP Ernest Kumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NPP is yet to announce its nomination schedule.
The NDC’s primary winner will face off with the NPP’s eventual candidate in what is expected to be a hotly contested seat.
