The Ablekuma North Constituency remains without a parliamentary representative nearly seven months after the December 7 general elections. The Electoral Commission (EC) has yet to declare the results, leaving the constituency in limbo.

Tensions have escalated as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) accuses the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of electoral fraud. Dr. Sofo Rashid Tanko-Computer, NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, claims the NPP is using fake scanned copies of election results to pressure the EC into announcing a winner.

Dr. Tanko-Computer, who also serves as CEO of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), called for the arrest of those allegedly involved in the alleged rigging attempt.

On Wednesday, June 4, members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament marched to the CID Headquarters. They presented a petition to the Inspector General of Police, demanding heightened security to ensure the EC can safely collate and declare the results.

Speaking on 3FM’s Hot Edition, Dr. Tanko-Computer insisted on a re-run of the election at all 62 polling stations. “The Electoral Commission cannot declare results without following due process,” he said.

He explained that the EC must present the original pink sheets, while political parties should have carbon copies. “CI 127 does not recognize scanned copies,” he said. “At our IPAC meeting, the EC admitted it had lost all original copies. Political parties also lost theirs due to violence at polling centers.”

Dr. Tanko-Computer further alleged that the NPP “cooked figures” at its party office and scanned them for submission to the EC. “We will not allow the EC to rely on fake scanned sheets to declare results. We will resist it,” he added.
