Prof. Ransford Gyampo, CEO Ghana Shippers Authority
Professor Ransford Gyampo, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, has disclosed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) approached him on two separate occasions to contest as a parliamentary candidate.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues, Prof Gyampo revealed that the first invitation came ahead of the 2016 general election for the Mfantseman seat in the Central Region, his hometown. The second came in 2019, ahead of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election following the death of MP Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko.
“In 2016, President Mahama invited me to contest in Saltpond, but I didn’t think the timing was right,” he said. “In 2019, while I was a visiting scholar at the University of Bristol, the NDC called again. But I opted to continue teaching.”
Prof Gyampo said that although he declined both offers, he later accepted a government role under the Mahama administration out of a sense of national responsibility.
“When the opportunity came again, I decided to accept it. If people think I can contribute to national development, then I should not shy away from the responsibility,” he explained.
The political science professor made these remarks amid public scrutiny following his appointment to head the Ghana Shippers’ Authority.
