NDC accuses Winneba Divisional Police Commander of bias toward NPP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region has publicly denounced the actions of Winneba Divisional Commander ACP Jeffrey Darko, accusing him of selective justice and intimidation against NDC members in the Effutu Constituency.

In a press statement signed by its Central Regional Communications Officer, Gabriella Tetteh, the NDC also accused the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, of orchestrating the alleged hostilities directed at the party.

The opposition further stated that it would not allow its members to be intimidated or forced to submit to harsh treatment by those in authority.

“We will no longer sit back and watch while our members are intimidated and our billboards destroyed,” the party said.

It continued, “ACP Darko’s actions are a clear attempt to undermine the democratic process and favor the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).”

In their argument, the NDC claimed that ACP Darko provided security for the installation of billboards for Mr. Afenyo-Markin, while ignoring the destruction of their own billboards by thugs allegedly affiliated with the Municipal Chief Executive. They argue that this undermines the democratic process and unfairly favors the NPP.

“This is unacceptable and we will not tolerate it, “We demand that ACP Darko and the Ghana Police Service remain impartial and ensure a peaceful electoral process,” part of the statement read.

The NDC further expressed dissatisfaction with the management of the country’s economy by the Nana Akufo-Addo-led administration, citing high levels of corruption, nepotism, and the erosion of democratic gains as some of the causes of the economic hardship in the country.

“Ghanaians are suffering and it’s time for a change. We call on voters to reject the NPP and elect leaders who will truly serve the people.”
