NDC accuses EC and NPP of colluding to rig elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a warning that it will not allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to collude with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the upcoming December elections.

The Deputy Minority Leader of Parliament, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, made this declaration during the party’s “Enough is Enough” demonstration against the EC in Sekondi-Takoradi.

“We want to safeguard our democracy. This call is for the peace and stability of our counEmmanuel Armah-Kofi Buahtry. We know that the Electoral Commission is colluding with the NPP, so we are doing everything to stop it,” Buah emphasized.

Mr Buah also stressed the need for an independent audit of the voter register, stating, “We know that the register is not credible and we have asked for an independent audit. We think that is the only way to assure the people of Ghana of a credible register that will lead to transparent and credible elections.”

Western Regional NDC Chairman, Nana Toku, echoed Buah’s sentiments, expressing determination to continue their efforts until their concerns are addressed.

“The EC has presented a register which is not credible to the people of this country, and we are saying that, until that register is corrected, we will not rest until they do so. Enough is enough for us, and we want peace in this country, and therefore they should do the right thing. If they do not respond to it, there will be another action.”

The Western Regional NDC demonstration was well-attended, with notable figures like Dr. Sipa Yankey, former CEO of Ghana National Gas Company, in attendance. Approximately 800 police personnel were deployed to ensure security as demonstrators marched from the Takoradi Mall to the EC office, carrying placards that read: “Rigged Register”, “Bias EC, Audit the Register”, “EC Banza”, “Clergy; silence is complicity. Speak Truth to Power”.
