The National Communications Authority (NCA) has shut down more than 60 radio stations, including Asaase Radio and Wontumi FM, for breaching broadcasting regulations.
The crackdown follows an audit ordered by the Ministry of Communications, which uncovered widespread non-compliance with licensing requirements outlined in the Electronic Communications Act and its regulations.
The affected stations were cited for various violations:
28 stations were operating with expired authorisations.
14 stations obtained authorisation but failed to commence operations within the required two-year period.
13 stations were broadcasting under provisional authorisation, although they had paid their fees.
7 stations had paid for provisional licences, but their full authorisation was pending due to non-compliance with Regulation 54.
Asaase Radio, which operates on 99.5 FM, is confirmed to be off-air, with similar actions taken against others nationwide.
The NCA has stressed that broadcasters must strictly adhere to licensing terms to continue operating and warned that enforcement efforts will continue in a bid to ensure compliance and restore order in the media landscape.
