Nationwide Covid-19 vaccination starts in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate has said that the 8th edition of the National COVID-19 Vaccination is set to commence today from the 20th to the 24th of this month.

According to him, the exercise is to circumvent and protect the citizenry from the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

During a media briefing to create awareness of the vaccination, the Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, said that over 4.6 million doses have already been administered in the Ashanti Region; 1.8 million (56.9%) people are fully vaccinated, whereas 2.5 million, representing 78.6% of the masses, have had only one dose.

He stressed that the total percentage of fully vaccinated people is expected to go up from 56.9% to 70% to combat COVID-19, despite recording low cases.

The theme for the vaccination exercise is “Protect Yourself, Protect Your Family, Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19 Now”.

He disclosed that the vaccination team will visit houses, markets, schools, lorry stations, all health facilities, churches, mosques, communities, and other vantage points considered suitable for the exercise.

He urged residents within the region to avail themselves to be vaccinated on the importance that one can only be protected from COVID-19 after taking the dose to curb the situation, which if care is not taken would blow a lot of dimensions in the health sector.
