National Security storms Forestry Commission disrupting official duties – Asere Donko

Journalist, Erastus Asare Donko has alleged that some over fifteen (15) fully armed men believed to “be National security operatives have surrounded the office of the forestry commission disrupting official duties for the day”

According to the award-winning journalist “Officials just told me the national security operatives say they have been asked by orders from above to close the offices of the forestry commission and bring the keys to them.”

Mr. Asare Donkor who is known for his journalistic fight against the illegal mining activities in the country alleged that the said office of the Forestry Commission have been under threat for arresting some illegal miners with the ODA River Forest Reserves in the Ashanti Region.

The Oda River Forest Reserve, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, is a 16,000-hectare forest reserve facing significant threats from illegal mining, also known as “galamsey”. Despite being a red zone for mining activities, illegal mining persists, resulting in substantial forest destruction. The reserve derives its name from the Oda River which flows through it and is a habitat for various animal species

Officials have recently been under threat for arresting illegal miners within the ODA River forest reserve.”
