Security agencies, acting on intelligence led by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), have uncovered several suspected cybercrime centres operating within East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija, and Tuba over the past 48 hours.
According to the Minister for Communication and Digital Innovation, Hon. Sam Nartey George, the intelligence revealed that young men, mostly foreign nationals, were being exploited and coerced by alleged kingpins to engage in various cybercrime activities from these locations.
“Following the intelligence briefing, a joint security operation involving National Security Operations, the Cyber Security Authority, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, and the Ghana Police Service SWAT Unit was carried out on January 16 and 17, 2026.” – the Minister said in a Facebook post
He stated that during the coordinated raids, nine (9) Nigerian nationals were arrested as suspects, while forty-four (44) other Nigerian nationals believed to be victims of human trafficking and cyber exploitation were rescued. The victims were found operating laptop computers in their respective apartments.
Searches conducted at the various locations led to the retrieval of:
Fifty-two (52) assorted mobile phones
Sixty-two (62) laptop computers
Two (2) pump-action guns
In total, fifty-three (53) Nigerian nationals were arrested across the five locations, broken down as follows:
East Legon Hills – 5
Afienya – 11
Kwabenya – 10
Weija – 10
Tuba – 17
All arrested individuals have been profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations.
Authorities have cautioned foreign nationals invited into Ghana to exercise due diligence and verify claims made by compatriots who lure them into the country under false pretences.
Security agencies further disclosed that some individuals arrested in earlier operations have already been profiled by the Ghana Immigration Service and INTERPOL and successfully handed over to Nigerian law enforcement authorities at the Seme border, while others are currently facing criminal prosecution before the courts.
The government reiterated that protecting Ghana’s international cyber image remains non-negotiable, commending the Cyber Security Authority and partner law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and commitment.
