NAP to Increase Apprentices from 10,000 to 100,000 in 2026 – President Mahama

President John Mahama says there will be a significant improvement and increment of the apprentices of the National Apprenticeship Program (NAP) from 10,000 to 100,000 in 2026.

According to President Mahama, the target has been increased from 10,000 to 100,000 to offer many young people the opportunity to acquire skills needed for sustainable development when they pass out.

He added that these young people will be given certificates by TVET to show that they have passed out and have the skill for whatever they learned.

Speaking in parliament on Friday during the State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Mahama underscored the government’s vision of implementing many policies to develop the youth capacity and create as many jobs as possible to address the major unemployment problems.

President Mahama noted that all youth activities and job creation programs are ongoing, adding that in 2025,  10,887 young people were trained in entrepreneurship programs and job creation under the Edwumawura program.

He added that, in 2026, an additional 10,000 people received similar support under the program.

He stressed that the NAP onboarded 14,000 youth apprentices during the pilot phase, and they have started receiving their startup kits after passing out successfully.

President Mahama added that training is ongoing across all regions, where these trainees will be certified by the Commission for TVET when completed to facilitate their access to employment.
