The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of an application by Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as NAM1, seeking to halt his criminal trial at the High Court.
NAM1, the embattled CEO of the now-defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, filed the request to stay proceedings until the Supreme Court rules on his appeal.
In May, the Court of Appeal dismissed his bid to suspend the High Court’s directive that he open his defence. Dissatisfied with that outcome, he took the case to the apex court.
At a sitting on Tuesday, July 8, the case was adjourned to July 29, 2025, according to the court clerk.
Facing 39 Charges
NAM1 and his companies, Menzgold Ghana Ltd and Brew Marketing Consult, are facing 39 charges, including:
- Operating a deposit-taking business without a license
- Selling gold without authorization
- Defrauding by false pretence
- Fraudulent breach of trust
- Money laundering
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently on bail. The High Court proceedings are on hold pending the outcome of the stay application.
NAM1 Dismisses Comparisons to Agradaa
Meanwhile, NAM1 brushed off comparisons to Nana Agradaa, the former fetish priestess convicted of fraud. “Let’s not give credence to that,” he told TV3’s Laud Adu-Asare.
